About

About K7RDG

Our club members bring a diverse range of expertise to the hobby of amateur radio, with interests spanning antenna design, digital modes, emergency communications, Morse code, and satellite operations. This broad spectrum of specialties ensures there's always something new to learn and explore within our community.

Many of our members act as mentors in their various specialties, or Elmers as it is known in the amateur radio parlance. They are available and willing to work one on one with those interested in any aspect of the hobby as well as other amateurs to share their knowledge and experience. If you have a interest or a question related to amateur radio, we are bound to have an opinion if not an answer.

What We Do

Meet & Great

Beyond the technical side of the hobby, we take great pride in the camaraderie that amateur radio fosters. Whether it's chatting on local repeaters, checking in to weekly nets, or gathering for informal meetups, our members enjoy staying connected and sharing stories, insights, and laughs. We welcome all personalities and skill levels—if you like good conversation, you're in the right place.

Emergency Communication (RACES)

Our club actively supports emergency communications through organized participation in EMCOM and RACES. Members train regularly to ensure they can provide reliable communication during disasters or community emergencies, serving as a vital auxiliary to local agencies. Whether it's deploying field stations, running directed nets, or supporting public safety communications infrastructure, our team is ready to respond when it matters most.

Community Service

Our commitment to public service extends beyond the airwaves. From supporting communications during regional events like bike races and the Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb, to assisting local organizations with logistics and outreach, our club members are active participants in making our community stronger and more connected. We take pride in putting our skills to good use where they’re needed most.

Licensed in 2020 and a resident of Cochise County since 2008, I am relatively new to amateur radio by most standards. I’m an avid outdoorsman and maker with a strong passion for electronics and RF. I enjoy building custom antennas, developing Raspberry Pi applications for radio, and participating in POTA and SOTA portable activations.

Bill McNab / N7BIL Past President (non voting)

Licensed in 2020, I still consider myself to be a new ham but am honored to serve CARA as Secretary. I've found that I enjoy FT8 and FT4 digital modes but also enjoy getting on the mic from time to time.
