The Cochise Amateur Radio Association (CARA) will be hosting their first annual Winter Field Day event on January 28th, 2023 at the location specified by the Google Plus code "VXFG+9PM". The event, which is organized by CARA, is a chance for amateur radio operators to set up temporary outdoor stations and communicate with other operators around the world. The first annual Winter Field Day event will begin at 1900 UTC on January 28th and run for 24 hours until 1900 UTC on January 29th. Participants will be setting up their stations in the Dragoons (31.8735336,-110.0231894), which offers a specific location for the event. During the event, participants will be using three transmitters to make contact with other radio operators around the world. During the 24 hours, the participants will be operating their radios, making contacts and participating in the event. The event is a test of emergency communication skills in austere conditions, and it's a good opportunity for the participants to practice operating under cold outdoor conditions. All the stations will be powered by solar panels and batteries, and no generator or vehicle will be used as a power source during the event. In addition to the main event, there will also be a number of educational opportunities and demonstrations hosted by CARA members for attendees to participate in. These will include demonstrations on radio operating techniques, antenna building, and emergency preparedness, as well as on the usage of SSTV and alternative power sources such as solar and battery. These workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to learn more about the equipment and techniques used for outdoor and emergency communication, as well as to share their own knowledge and experience with others. The first annual Winter Field Day event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend.
